Updates on Federal Assistance

January 29th, 2025

"SF State is steady in its commitment to supporting your progress toward graduation and ensuring you have access to the resources needed for your success."

Dear students,

I am reaching out today because we are aware of the concerns which have been created about federal financial aid due to recent developments.

As you may be aware, the Federal Office of Management and Budget sent out a memo on January 27, 2025 directing agencies to pause activities related to disbursement of federal financial assistance. As of yesterday afternoon, a judge had put a pause on the order. As of this morning, the White House has rescinded the Executive Order.

Even before the memo was rescinded, the Department of Education released this statement confirming that this order does not apply to Federal financial aid funds. Similarly, Veterans Affairs released this Bulletin confirming that the order does not apply to GI Benefits for veteran and military-affiliated students.

SF State is steady in its commitment to supporting your progress toward graduation and ensuring you have access to the resources needed for your success. The CSU had submitted a declaration in strong support of California’s Attorney General as they challenged the Executive Order in federal court.

While relieved, I understand that this has been stressful. Please keep in mind that we have resources to help support you.

The information regarding this is changing rapidly and the university will continue to monitor and provide updates.

With Gator Pride,

Katie Lynch
